I was inspired last night by a deal on seasoned steakhouse hamburger patties -- so I sniped 2 and decided to Houston's it. Recipe after the jump --
(note: that's not a picture of my actual burger, just one from Houston's)
Burger
Steakhouse burger patty (pre-seasoned)
New York Cheddar
Heirloom tomato
Head of cabbage
Bun (I used store-bought potato -- it was Orowheat but definitely no Houston's bun)
Grill in your backyard
Make the burger and top with cheddar, shredded cabbage, sliced tomato and condiments to taste.
Now, what you'll be left with is a lot of cabbage. They're like $0.79 a head, so it wouldn't be a huge deal to just throw it out. But, I was also kinda craving some cabbage slaw while I waited for the burger so I threw together this vinaigrette and had a lot of fun chopping the crap out of the rest of the cabbage.
Cabbage Slaw\Salad
Rice Vinegar
Sesame Oil
Soy Sauce
Salt, Pepper, Garlic (I used powder)
Put the dressing ingredients at the bottom of a bowl and whisk together -- you could also stick some peanut butter in for the Thai flair. Then toss in shredded cabbage. I was actually thinking afterwards that I should've added some mustard for taste and tightening up the dressing.
It came out with a bit too much salt\acidity, so I ended up chopping up the rest of the heirloom and throwing that in. Those things are really sweet and delicious. Also, some bits of cheddar may have made their way on to a few forkfuls.
